About the Journal

Journal of Human-AI Futures (JOHAF) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to advancing research on the evolving relationships between humans, artificial intelligence, institutions, and society. The journal provides an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, academics, professionals, policymakers, and practitioners to examine how artificial intelligence influences human decision-making, collaboration, creativity, organizations, governance, social systems, and future human development.

JOHAF publishes theoretical, empirical, experimental, comparative, conceptual, and policy-oriented studies concerning human–AI interaction, responsible artificial intelligence, AI ethics and governance, societal transformation, intelligent decision support, organizational adaptation, and emerging human–AI ecosystems. Particular attention is given to research that explains not only what artificial intelligence can do, but also how its development and use affect people, institutions, communities, and society.

The journal encourages contributions from diverse national and international contexts and particularly welcomes manuscripts with clearly defined research problems, rigorous methodologies, strong theoretical or analytical foundations, and meaningful implications for responsible AI development, human-centered innovation, organizational transformation, governance, and the future of human–AI collaboration.

Focus and Scope

Journal of Human-AI Futures publishes original research, review articles, empirical studies, conceptual contributions, comparative research, and policy-oriented studies addressing the interaction between humans and artificial intelligence. The journal particularly welcomes manuscripts within the following areas:

1. Human–AI Interaction and Collaboration
Human–AI interaction, human-centered AI, collaborative intelligence, human–machine teaming, AI-assisted decision-making, trust in AI, explainability, human oversight, cognitive interaction, AI-assisted creativity, user experience, adaptive intelligent systems, decision-support systems, and the design and evaluation of effective human–AI collaboration.
2. Responsible AI, Ethics and Governance
Responsible AI, AI ethics, algorithmic fairness, transparency, accountability, bias, privacy, explainable AI, trustworthy AI, AI risk governance, human accountability, algorithmic governance, artificial intelligence regulation, standards, institutional oversight, public policy, and responsible deployment of intelligent systems.
3. AI, Society and Human Transformation
Social and cultural implications of artificial intelligence, work and employment, education, healthcare, communication, creativity, digital culture, social relationships, human behavior, inequality, inclusion, organizational transformation, professional practice, public services, and societal adaptation to increasingly intelligent technologies.
4. Futures of Human–AI Systems
Future of work, future education, intelligent organizations, AI-enabled public services, autonomous systems and society, emerging human–AI ecosystems, digital futures, AI-mediated decision-making, institutional transformation, human adaptation to intelligent systems, long-term societal impacts, and future scenarios involving collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence.
Interdisciplinary Studies: JOHAF welcomes interdisciplinary research involving computer science, human–computer interaction, psychology, sociology, communication, education, management, public policy, law, healthcare, philosophy, design, economics, engineering, and related disciplines when the manuscript demonstrates a clear contribution to human–AI interaction, responsible AI, societal transformation, governance, or future human–AI systems.
Scope Note: Manuscripts focused primarily on machine learning algorithms, deep learning architectures, computer vision, natural language processing, robotics, software development, or other purely technical AI topics may be considered outside the scope of JOHAF unless they demonstrate a clear and substantive contribution to human interaction, social impact, responsible AI, governance, organizational transformation, or the future of human–AI systems.
JOHAF Perspective: The journal is particularly interested in research that addresses not only the technical capability of artificial intelligence, but also its implications for humans, organizations, institutions, and society.
